DocSend Alternatives in 2026, Compared
When DocSend is still the right answer, and what to use when it is more than you need or more than you want to pay.
By Carlos Soto · Published 2026-09-11
The main DocSend alternatives are Papermark (free, open source), HummingDeck ($10 a month), Closewatch ($19 a month flat, built for proposals), and PandaDoc, Proposify or Qwilr if you also want an editor. DocSend itself starts at $10 per user a month, with Standard at $45. Closewatch wrote this list.
Prices below were checked on each vendor's own pricing page on 11 September 2026: DocSend, Papermark, HummingDeck, Proposify and Qwilr. PandaDoc's come from a public pricing tracker last verified in July 2026.
Why people look for a DocSend alternative
The plan most teams need is $45 per user. DocSend's Personal plan starts at $10 per user per month billed annually, but multi-file sharing, branding and the rest arrive on Standard, at $45 per user. For a five-person team that is a meaningful monthly bill.
There is no free plan. DocSend offers a trial, not a free tier, so trying it on a real deal is a purchase decision.
Dropbox's free tracking ended. Dropbox discontinued its built-in Send and Track feature on 31 March 2025, including the tracking analytics that came with it. Dropbox users who relied on it now need DocSend, which is a separate paid product, or something else.
Data rooms are more than a proposal needs. DocSend's upper plans are built around data rooms and deal security, which matter for fundraising and due diligence and rarely for a services proposal.
When DocSend is still the right answer
DocSend is mature, widely recognised, and genuinely good at what it is built for. Stay with it, or choose it, if you:
- send fundraising decks, where investors already expect a DocSend link;
- need a data room, NDA gating before a reader can open a document, or email verification of every viewer;
- want one tool for every document your company shares, and already pay for Dropbox.

Papermark
What it is: an open-source document sharing and tracking tool, and the most common straight replacement for DocSend.
Price: free for up to 50 documents with page-by-page analytics and unlimited visitors; Pro from €24 per month billed annually (€29 monthly); data rooms from €99 per month. It can be self-hosted.
Choose it if: you want DocSend-style tracking for free, or on your own infrastructure, including data rooms.
Weakness: like DocSend, it reports document activity without interpreting it for a sales follow-up, and self-hosting means running it yourself.
HummingDeck
What it is: a lightweight document tracker with per-page analytics and filtering for email-scanner activity.
Price: free for 5 documents and 5 links; Starter $10 per month for one user; Pro $25 and Business $40 per user per month. 7-day free trial.
Choose it if: you are a solo sender and want the lowest paid price.
Weakness: the free plan runs out after five documents, and team plans are priced per user.
Closewatch
What it is: a tracker built only for proposals. Upload the PDF you already made, send a link, and see opens, time per page, pricing time, return visits, new readers, downloads and prints, scored into cold, warm or hot with the reasons listed.
Price: free for two read proposals live at once, with all the tracking; Solo $19 a month, flat, whatever the team size.
Choose it if: proposals are the document that matters, you want to know which client to follow up with today, and you do not need a data room.
Weakness: no data rooms, no NDA gating, no e-signature, and PDFs only. It is also far younger than DocSend, with far fewer users. See Closewatch vs DocSend for the full comparison.
PandaDoc
What it is: an all-in-one document platform with an editor, e-signature and CRM sync.
Price: free plan for e-signature; Starter from $19 per seat per month billed annually with real-time notifications; document analytics from Business at $49 per seat per month.
Choose it if: you want to build, send, track and sign documents in one place.
Weakness: you build documents in its editor rather than uploading a finished one, and per-seat pricing adds up. If tracking is all you want from it, see the PandaDoc alternative comparison.
Proposify
What it is: a proposal builder with templates, tracking and e-signature.
Price: Basic from $19 per user per month billed annually ($29 monthly). 14-day free trial.
Choose it if: you are replacing DocSend for proposals specifically and also want a shared editor and template library.
Weakness: tracking covers only proposals built in its editor. If you design proposals elsewhere, see the Proposify alternative comparison.
Qwilr
What it is: a builder for interactive, web-page proposals.
Price: Starter from $35 per user per month billed annually ($49 monthly), with 60 days of analytics history. 14-day free trial.
Choose it if: your proposals would be better as a web page than as a document.
Weakness: the highest entry price here, and it replaces your document rather than tracking it.
Is a Google Drive or Dropbox link a DocSend alternative?
A shared cloud link is free, and as a DocSend alternative it tells you very little. A shared cloud link can show that a file was accessed in some plans and setups, but not who read which pages or for how long, and it cannot tell a real reader from an email scanner. Dropbox's own tracking feature, Send and Track, was discontinued in March 2025. See how to track a PDF proposal for why a hosted file on its own gives you requests rather than reading.
How to choose a DocSend alternative
Investor decks or a data room: stay with DocSend, or use Papermark if cost or self-hosting matters.
Proposals you already design: Closewatch, or HummingDeck if price is everything.
Proposals you would rather build in a tool: Proposify, Qwilr or PandaDoc.
Nothing at all to spend: Papermark's free plan, then Closewatch's or HummingDeck's.
Where Closewatch fits
Closewatch is the alternative for people who use DocSend mainly for proposals and want a tool shaped around them: a pipeline sorted by who is actually reading, not a list of documents with view counts. It is $19 a month, flat, with two read proposals free. If you need data rooms or NDA gating, it is the wrong choice, and DocSend or Papermark will serve you better.
A pipeline ordered by who is reading, not a list of documents. Sample data.
If you send proposals for an agency, proposal tracking for agencies shows what that pipeline looks like with several clients in it.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best free alternative to DocSend?
Papermark, for most people. Its free plan covers up to 50 documents with page-by-page analytics and unlimited visitors, and it is open source if you want to host it yourself. For proposals specifically, Closewatch's free plan covers two read proposals at a time with all of its tracking.
How much does DocSend cost in 2026?
On DocSend's pricing page in September 2026: Personal from $10 per user per month, Standard from $45 per user per month, Advanced from $150 per month for three users, and Advanced Data Rooms from $180 per month, all billed yearly. There is no free plan, only a trial.
Did Dropbox stop document tracking?
Dropbox discontinued its built-in Send and Track feature on 31 March 2025, including the tracking analytics for files sent that way. DocSend, which Dropbox owns, still offers document tracking as a separate paid product.
Is there a cheaper alternative to DocSend for proposals?
Yes. HummingDeck starts at $10 a month and Closewatch at $19 a month flat, both with free plans. Compared with DocSend Standard at $45 per user, either is cheaper as soon as more than one person sends proposals.
Which DocSend alternative has data rooms?
Papermark offers data rooms from €99 per month, alongside its free document-sharing plan. PandaDoc has deal rooms on its higher plans. Closewatch and HummingDeck do not offer data rooms.
Is there a free version of DocSend?
No. DocSend offers a free trial rather than a free plan, and its cheapest plan, Personal, starts at $10 per user a month billed yearly. For document tracking at no cost, Papermark's free plan covers 50 documents, HummingDeck's covers five, and Closewatch's covers two proposals being read at a time.
Is DocSend the same as Dropbox?
No. DocSend is a separate product that Dropbox owns. Dropbox bought it in 2021, and it has its own plans and pricing apart from Dropbox storage. Dropbox's built-in Send and Track feature, which offered basic tracking for shared files, was discontinued in March 2025.
